Goss formally rolls out GossRSVP cell phone marketing service

The press vendor began testing the service, which allows cell phone users to interact with print ads, late last year, using Foster's Daily Democrat in Dover, N.H., as one of its evaluation sites (see Newspapers & Technology, February 2008).

Goss RSVP is a way for print advertisers to digitally connect with consumers. Advertisers and publishers are including a small RSVP logo that includes a two-dimensional bar code and alpha-numeric sequence in their print media. Readers, depending on the type of phone they have, can either scan the code or send a text message to receive a response such as a coupon that is sent directly to their phone within seconds.

Goss Intl. is testing program with a limited number of advertisers and publishers near its facilities in New Hampshire. The company expects to expand geographically and add features such as ongoing reward and loyalty programs for consumers.

Two new response systems are set to exploit growing use of internet-enabled mobiles to make a stronger connection between print and online.

A new system from newspaper press manufacturer Goss international will be launched in Australia next month, while Telstra is in the process of introducing a mobile code system for its Next G phone users. Both can use two-dimensional barcodes - which are scanned by phone cameras - but these will not be interchangeable.
